Technical studies conducted by the National Agency Maaden Mauritania, in collaboration with the German Agency for International Cooperation, on the value chain, highlight that the gold mining and semi-industrial exploitation sector constitutes one of the pillars of the Mauritanian economy. This sector contributes to stimulating growth, expanding investment and providing tens of thousands of jobs, while having a significant social impact on improving living conditions and supporting local communities. The Agency works to develop and organize this sector so that it remains a sustainable source for the national economy, thus strengthening the prospects for overall development and the integration between economic activity and local society.
I will ensure that mechanisms are put in place to enable the artisanal and semi-industrial mining sector to optimally contribute to the economic and social development of our country. Efforts will continue to organize, supervise, and regulate artisanal gold mining activities, in order to maximize their benefits – in conditions of complete safety – and to offer young people the resulting employment opportunities.
