Introduction
The development of infrastructure related to the artisanal and semi-industrial mining sector has been a central priority for the National Agency for the Development of Mining in Mauritania, in accordance with the high-level guidelines of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani.
These guidelines aim to supervise, organize, and modernize the sector in order to meet the State’s ambitions to strengthen the national economy and create jobs for young people.
Over the past six years, a series of projects have been completed, significantly transforming mining areas and contributing to improving working conditions and expanding access to basic services.
This momentum continues today under the leadership of the Director General, Mr. B.A. Ousmane, who is working with a clear vision to consolidate and expand existing achievements and launch new programs to strengthen the infrastructure’s capacity to meet the growing demand for services.
Access to Services and Improved Access to Services
The opening up of operating sites is one of the Agency’s most significant achievements.
Thus, integrated regional representations were created, bringing together health centers, administrative offices, security posts, and permanent administrative teams.
Spread across five main wilayas, these representations function as advanced service centers and logistics bases, effectively supporting field operations.
Road Rehabilitation and Smoother Travel
The efforts of the Maaden National Agency in Mauritania were not limited to the establishment of regional representations.
They also focused on the development and maintenance of internal roads in operating areas, facilitating the movement of people and equipment between the various sites.
This action has ensured greater operational fluidity and reduced the time and effort spent on daily activities.
Processing Centers
In the processing sector, the Agency has established large processing centers, each covering an area of up to 40 hectares.
These centers are equipped with administrative, health, and security infrastructure and represent integrated models for artisanal and semi-industrial mining.
Among the most important are:
Cheikh Mohamed El Mamy Center – Dakhlet Nouadhibou Province.
Sidi Ahmed Aïda Martyr Center – Tiris Zemmour Province (Safiriyat area).
Chagar Center – Brakna Province.
Operational Fleet and Support Services
To ensure rapid response and operational efficiency, the Agency has strengthened its field fleet by acquiring all-terrain vehicles, trucks, and heavy equipment integrated into the security system.
This has improved its ability to carry out missions under varied conditions. Basic Field Services
The Agency has not neglected aspects directly related to worker well-being.
It has thus undertaken the drilling and equipping of artesian wells to secure the water supply in the operating areas, while also providing communication services, which has helped improve the working environment and maintain a permanent link with administrative headquarters and the community.
A Forward-Looking Strategic Vision
These achievements confirm that infrastructure is not simply static elements, but a living system, constantly evolving to meet the demands of the sector.
Under the leadership of the Director General, Mr. BA Ousmane, the Maaden Mauritania National Agency continues to strengthen this system through ambitious plans including the development of existing centers, the addition of new representations, and the expansion of logistics services, thus ensuring sustainable growth and opening up new investment opportunities.
